AACOA’s Major Expansion Project Like Renovating A Moving Train

Posted by Tony Harman on Aug 22, 2017 10:37:00 AM

The expansion at AACOA's Niles, Michigan facility was constructed using Butler pre-engineered metal buildings.

After years of serving commercial and manufacturing businesses throughout the United States, J.A. Wagner Construction still looks forward to new challenges. We like to think that if a client needed us to renovate a moving train, we’d find a way.

In fact, we’re grateful for the opportunity we recently had to test our capabilities when we worked with a leading aluminum extrusion company in Niles, Michigan. AACOA’s major $18 million expansion project, designed to accommodate a new state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion line, proved we can successfully expand a facility that’s operational 24/7—the manufacturing equivalent of a train that never stops.

New “Hub and Spoke” Facility for Universal Trailer is Unique Approach

Posted by J.A. Wagner Construction on Aug 4, 2017 9:49:09 AM

The design-build project for Universal Trailer involved the construction of a 199,808 square-foot “hub and spoke” style facility for the production of fully-assembled trailers as well as trailer kits.

Playing an important role in a large-scale construction project is always exciting for us here at J.A. Wagner Construction. But, being part of new construction model is even more exciting. We found this to be true earlier this year when we constructed Universal Trailer Cargo Group’s new paint and production facility in the heart of the Midwest in Bristol, Indiana.

Universal Trailer is known for its high-quality trailers. Its brands, which include Haulmark, Haulmark Motorcoach, Featherlite, Featherlite Specialty, Exiss, Sooner, and Wells Cargo, are commonly seen on highways across North America. The company manufactures horse trailers, livestock trailers, ATV trailers, motorcycle trailers, snowmobile trailers, race car trailers, custom car trailers, equipment trailers, and made-to-order trailers for specialty hauling projects.

Here Comes the Rain: Are You Looking for Sturdy and Affordable Reroofing Options?

Posted by J.A. Wagner Construction on May 23, 2017 11:46:00 AM

Butler Manufacturing's Low Profile Metal Over Metal Reroof System is the ideal reroof solution for low slope metal roofs. Panels are permanently seamed together with a full 360 degree Pittsburgh double lock seam to assure weather-tightness and long-term performance with minimal maintenance expense.

With the arrival of spring comes rain. It’s nature’s way of nourishing new growth. It’s also the way many manufacturers and commercial businesses discover new roof leaks.

J.A. Wagner has years of experience in new, replacement, and retrofit roofing options. One product line we routinely recommend for roof repair comes from Butler® Manufacturing. Butler’s Reroof Systems are affordable options for replacing leaky roofs with long-term, weathertight solutions.

Here’s How Daylighting Saves You Money

Posted by J.A. Wagner Construction on May 17, 2017 8:10:00 AM

Butler's SunLite Strip daylighting system introduces up to three times the amount of light earlier and later in the day than translucent panels, and can reduce electrical lighting consumption by up to 70%.

Most commercial and industrial buildings are built with as few openings to the outside as possible. Yes, there are entrances, exits, and shipping dock doors; vents; and maybe a few windows in the office areas. But for a long time, the idea was to preserve both heat and privacy by severing inside operations from the outside world.

The problem? Blocking out all that natural, abundant, free sunshine wasn’t just an aesthetic fail in many ways, it was an economic one. Any company that pays a monthly electric bill for lighting that is used 24/7/365 will understand exactly where we’re headed here.

A Case Study: How Design-Build Construction Solved Global Link’s Problems

Posted by J.A. Wagner Construction on Apr 11, 2017 9:26:00 AM

Global Link Distribution's new Elkhart, Indiana facility consolidated several operations under one roof—a solution that has enabled them to grow well into the future and has allowed them to strengthen their strong, diverse supply chain.

Global Link Distribution is a leading supplier of OEM products for the RV, manufactured housing, cargo trailer, fencing and cabinet shop industries. Founded in 2007, Global Link’s product offerings include locksets, fasteners, latches, drawer slides and cabinet hardware. They also perform research and development in their quest to provide the highest quality service to the growing RV industry.

Over the course of eight years, as Global Link had grown, they had leased multiple facilities to store their inventory. By 2015, they found that constant driving to multiple locations to fill orders and stock inventory was wearing out their employees as well as their company trucks. They needed a solution that would consolidate their operation under one roof—a solution that has enabled them to grow well into the future and has allowed them to strengthen their strong, diverse supply chain.

Is Your Building’s Roof Ready For Winter?

Posted by Andrew Harman on Dec 16, 2016 8:59:08 AM

Most snow-related building losses typically occur at stepped elevations where blowing snow is carried from an upper roof down to a lower roof.

The winter season is upon us in Northern Indiana and there is no accurate way for us to predict what the winter will bring. If we have a repeat of recent years, there are a few things every building owner should know to prevent a catastrophe from occurring:
  • Heavy and repeated snowstorms can create packed snow and ice conditions resulting in unusual and excessive snow loads of 50 p.s.f. or greater.
  • Blowing and drifting snow can add to these loads
  • Rain-on-snow can cause significant load increases
  • These loads can be in excess of the design capacity of the building and can cause damage, collapse, or at worst, business interruption, injury and death.
